Age-ing to Sage-ing (60+)
While Romemu services, courses, holiday celebrations, and many other offerings are inclusive of people of all ages, we also recognize the specific needs of our members aged 60+.
Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, the spiritual founder of Renewal Judaism and Rabbi Ingber’s teacher, promoted a vision of aging that is full of adventure, passion, mystery, and fulfillment.
The programs and resources listed here are specifically designed for Romemu members aged 60+ to harness the power of the spirit and become a sage in our community.
The Spiritual Eldering Circle
In Partnership with Romemu & DOROT, Age-ing to Sage-ing is back! What if we could see the aging process as a meaningful time of self-actualization? As we meet the challenges of growing older, we also find extraordinary opportunity for spiritual growth and expanded awareness. Based on the teachings of Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, The Spiritual Eldering Circle invites us to consider the deeper meaning and purpose of growing older, allowing group participants to uncover new understandings around the end of life and self-fulfillment.
The group is led by Romemu’s very own Certified Saging Leader, Neshama Waller.
The first cohort of the Spiritual Eldering Circle began on April 18. Check our email newsletter regularly for dates for the next cohort.
Our Partnership with DOROT
DOROT is a social service organization on the Upper West Side that knows the power of community as it works to reduce social isolation for older adults and bring generations together, and our partnership directly connects their services to Romemu members.
DOROT works with Romemu clergy to respond to the evolving needs of older congregants and broaden the range of programs and services avialble for senior support and social engagement in the community.
DOROT services include:
– meal delivery
– support groups
– home visits
– psychosocial assessments and referrals for older adults
– guidance and referrals for caregivers and family members
– case consultation
– and more.
Some programs such as meal delivery and support groups are immediately accesible to all. For other programs Romemu’s dedicated social worker, Hilary Forest (see bio below) will first arrange a home visit with you to discuss your needs and then connect you with the services that can best help you.

DOROT also offers many volunteer opportunities to connect with older adults to form friendships, create intergenerational bonds and provide support.
