Membership Pathways Staging

Membership is about more than paying dues or the benefits you receive. It is a commitment to be part of a community – to celebrate Shabbat and holidays together, to learn together, to rejoice in simchas (celebrations) and support each other in times of need.

You are a member who is passionate about living an elevated Jewish life and helping others to do so as well.

Many of our members cannot afford the full cost of membership. More than 50% of Romemu’s yearly operating budget comes from contributions from individuals who are able to give more than the normative cost of membership, and it is their generosity that ensures we can provide the level of services and care on which our congregants rely to live elevated, Jewish lives.

For those who can afford to give above and beyond:

• Your donation makes it possible for Romemu to offer membership to others at highly discounted rates.
• Ensure the continuity of people’s Jewish lives, who would otherwise not affiliate themselves with a synagogue or Jewish movement.
• Sustain the lively, Jewish, spiritually-connected services and classes that are driving the future of Jewish practice.

The generosity of our Bonim (Builder) members include a charitable contribution above membership dues.

Romemu offers subsidized membership rates to folks experiencing financial hardship and asks that in return you join a committee or commit to 4 volunteer shifts per year if you are able. To inquire about reduced membership dues please email membership@romemu.org with your contact information and our membership team will get back to you.

Volunteer shift examples include helping community leaders with:-

• Holiday Celebrations and Other Events: decorating, helping to plan, setting up, sending out invitations, getting the word out over the phone, picking up hamentachen, latkes, and other treats
• High Holidays: handing out tickets, setting out prayer books and pamphlets, greeting, handing out siddurim, helping to drive or assist members who need extra assistance
• Shabbat Services: greeting and handing out siddurim, helping fold Talit, greeting people on Zoom for the shmooze

*Note: A security fee of $200 will be added to the cost of memberships at the Sustainer, Family, First-Time Family, Couple, and Individual levels. Romemu is committed to creating a safe space for all who come to pray at our services and attend our events. To ensure the safety of our community, we hire security professionals to be present at all Romemu gatherings. We ask that the community share in the cost of this service.

A Friend Membership is a way to deepen your relationship and sense of community with Romemu. You may belong to another synagogue or only participate on occasion, but you feel connected to the synagogue and want support, nurture, and have a stake in Romemu’s future.
