Community Dinner and Book Talk with Rabbi Jill Hammer

Community Dinner and Book Talk with Rabbi Jill Hammer

We are delighted to welcome Rabbi Jill Hammer, PhD, long-time member of the Romemu community and teacher at The Well for Romemu Lifelong Learning, for a community dinner following Shabbat services. She will speak about her book Undertorah: An Earth-Based Kabbalah of Dreaming.

Undertorah takes readers on a journey through the root systems of the dreamworld. Drawing on Rabbi Jill’s deep knowledge of ancient Jewish dream practice, world wisdom traditions, and contemporary ecotheology, this hybrid work of mystical scholarship combines personal narrative, multi-voiced oral history, and a somatic alternative to more symbolic methods of dream interpretation. A practical and paradigm-shifting guidebook for individuals and communities, Undertorah offers a transformative approach to contemporary dreamwork, grounded in embodied experience and ancestral wisdom, that connects us to spirit and inspires us to heal our world.

We warmly invite all members to join dinner and this inspiring conversation with Rabbi Jill, an evening of connection, learning, and community.

“That’s How You Make a Torah”
A Hands-on Workshop with Torah Scribe Rabbi Linda Motzkin

At this once-in-a-lifetime workshop, Romemu members will participate in the creation of a Torah scroll with Rabbi Linda Motzkin, one of the first known women Torah scribes in history and one of the stars of the short documentary, “That’s How You Make a Torah,” directed by Romemu’s Director of Programming Lauren Greenhall.

Participants will get a sneak preview of the film followed by the opportunity to see and touch the raw materials — animal skin, sinew, quills, materials used in making ink, and more– that go into making a Torah scroll, and then participate in the sacred process of checking individual parchment panels before they can be assembled. Once completed, this Torah will be donated to a community in need of one.

All ages/families are welcome. Knowledge of Hebrew is not necessary to participate. Space is limited. Discover more about Rabbi Linda Motzkin and Lauren Greenhall here.

March 10, 2026, 7:30 pm, at 92NY, 1395 Lexington Avenue New York

Join Rabbi David Ingber for a special live taping of his acclaimed podcast Detours & Destinations as he and humanitarian Georgette Bennett discuss her new book, Half-Jew – Full Life.

This riveting account of Holocaust survival and American reinvention chronicles the extraordinary life of Gary “Pips” Phillips — Bennett’s surrogate family — who chose to identify as Jewish under Nazi rule, a defiant act that shaped his lifetime of courage and resilience.
