Rabbi of Romemu Brooklyn - A unique opportunity to lead, teach, and grow a vibrant Jewish community in central Brooklyn
About the Role
Romemu Brooklyn is seeking a visionary rabbi and leader to serve as:
- Spiritual Guide and Teacher – leading Shabbat and High Holy Day services, offering Torah insights, and enriching other holidays.
- Pastoral Care Provider – supporting members through lifecycle events, offering guidance, and cultivating deep personal connections.
- Community Builder – contributing to growth, fostering relationships, and collaborating creatively with dedicated community members to shape the future of our sacred community.
This role is ideal for a rabbi who is musical, warm, collaborative, and eager to engage in both the spiritual and organizational life of a small but growing community.
Time Commitment
- 12 Monthly Kabbalat Shabbat Services: 1 per month (Sept–June) with Hazzan Basya Schechter, rehearsal at 5 or 5:30 pm, service at 6 or 6:30 pm (~90 minutes), based on daylight savings, followed by a catered vegetarian dinner until ~9:30–10 pm; solo leadership in July and August.
- 10 Monthly Shabbat Morning Services: 1 per month (Sept–June), rehearsal with musicians at 9 am, service 10 am–12:15 pm, followed by kiddush until ~1:30 pm.
- Community Relationship Building: ~2 hours per week (teaching, pastoral support, B Mitzvah prep, connecting with local leaders, working on growth, or simply being present).
- Occasional Lifecycle Events & Pastoral Needs.
- High Holy Days: Beginning 2026/5787; other holidays to be discussed.
About the Rabbi We Seek
We are looking for a rabbi who:
- Leads from a place of pluralism, openness, and spiritual generosity.
- Can hold musical and spiritual leadership of Romemu services in partnership with Hazzan Basya Schechter and independently.
- Delivers Torah insights and Divrei Torah that apply Jewish wisdom to contemporary life.
- Is called to pastoral care, offering empathy, warmth, and guidance to a diverse community.
- Has a commitment to personal and spiritual growth, self-awareness, and inner work.
- Brings programmatic vision and entrepreneurial zeal, with energy to grow membership and philanthropic support.
- Thrives in collaborative dynamics, eagerly partnering with passionate lay leaders and our one full-time community director.
About Romemu Brooklyn
Romemu Brooklyn is an intimate, sacred community in central Brooklyn that combines Jewish liturgy, joyous song, mindfulness, and Torah insight. In 2017, we spun off from Romemu Manhattan, bringing professional leadership and a creative volunteer-driven ethos to Brooklyn.

- Dedicated to beauty in davening; music, poetry, and creativity make our spiritual practice uplifting and aesthetically rich.
- Not a full-service synagogue nor an independent minyan, we offer a hybrid model: professionally anchored services and programming combined with active member involvement.
Compensation
- $37,500–$45,000, commensurate with experience and training.
- Expectation of growth in role and compensation as membership and philanthropic support expand.
